Big Battle Won

The article from Dainik Bhaskar discusses the Supreme Court's recent decision regarding the allotment of plots in Chandigarh's Industrial Area Phase-3. Due to a prolonged delay by the Chandigarh Housing Board in allotting these plots, industrialists took the matter to the Supreme Court. After many years of legal battle, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the industrialists, leading to the allotment of three plots at old rates from 1980.

This resulted in notable discrepancies between the current market value and the allotment prices:

  1. A plot valued at ₹5.67 crore was allotted for just ₹64,000.
  2. Another plot valued at ₹11.63 crore was allotted for ₹1.27 lakh.

The current collector rate for the area is ₹62,599 per square yard. However, the Supreme Court ordered the allotments based on the 1980 rate of ₹70 per square yard. This stark contrast between the old rates used for the allotments and the present market rates has drawn significant attention.

Moreover, Chandigarh government employees under a self-financing scheme 2008 have been waiting for their allotments for many years as well. These employees are looking to the Supreme Court's decision as a precedent, hoping for a similar resolution to their prolonged wait. This situation underscores the broader implications of delayed allotments and the potential for legal recourse to address such issues.
